"Clean Pipe" Cloud Security is a Great Option for SMBs

We’ve previously blogged how too many SMBs leave themselves open to malware and other systems attacks, and that there are on-premise solutions that can affordably address these concerns. On-premise solutions, such as Web filtering, firewalls, and anti-spamware, exist within your systems. Think of them as an invisible force field, shielding your network and data from incoming viruses that sneak in via email/web usage.

Such solutions are very helpful, but you can also add another highly effective, additional layer of protection by going to the cloud. This is when you turn to what we call "clean pipe" solutions to secure network connection points.

Why is this important? Because when you strictly deploy firewalls and other on-premise solutions, you’re protecting your local-area network (LAN) but not your wide-area network (WAN). This lack of WAN protection may lead to denial of service (DoS) attacks that can shut down critical areas of your online business operations – including customer/vendor communications and sales exchanges.

Clean-pipe solutions serve a great function for small companies that depend upon T1 or Ethernet connections for business applications. With our Fusion Circuit and Gateway based Managed Security Services, we’re constantly updating our signatures. We now support more than 6,000 signatures to protect against these threats&emdashwhich are prevalent on the Internet, waiting to block the access you require.

It’s perfect for SMBs because there’s very little you need to do other than order the project. Installation is automated, delivered automatically with your access connection without any human intervention. As with our on-premise solutions, we keep the clean-pipe product up-to-date. We create your own security portal so you can see what are the most commonly frequented websites among your employee/users, and what threats are most frequently getting blocked.

The Fusion Customer portal serves as your one-stop shop for not only clean-pipe, but on-premise solutions as well. Meaning you can protect your systems and data from inside via Unified Threat Management (UTM) (firewalls, anti-virus, intrusion prevention, web filtering, anti-spam ware, etc.) or through the cloud.

Beyond that, there aren’t really any ways that the bad guys can get to you, are there?

Question of the week: What can a clean-pipe solution do for your SMB?
